Davidson revealed how students “could record lectures on their iPods and listen at their own leisure” (Davidson, 52). The use of technology in class simplifies a student’s learning whether it be by recording lectures for future reference, or by writing notes on a word document instead of hurriedly writing notes by hand. Another way technology simplifies education is by giving students easy access to coursework from outside of school. A professor can create a website of his/her own and post to that website homework, classwork, and other important documents related to the class. With the use of teacher websites students never lose access to their classwork since the website is accessible from any internet connected device. Furthermore, technology simplifies education also by allowing students to crowdsource an answer to a question related to their coursework. In her article, Davidson happens to comment on the topic of crowdsourcing, calling it a benefit of technology. Davidson states “the community most served by the solutions should be chiefly involved with the process of finding it” (Davidson 51). Davidson is trying to explain how if a group of people have a problem they are the ones who need to find a fix. In her iPod experiment, Davidson …show more content…
For starters, email has significantly improved the connection between students and teachers. Email allows students to ask a question without physically meeting his or her teacher and getting an answer in only a matter of hours. Additionally, submitting class work to a teacher over the internet also makes education simpler for students. In her article piece, Cathy Davidson gives an anecdote of Duke students doing an interview project in a North Carolina community. She says “Each student would upload the day’s interviews to a course web site and anyone could download and comment on the interviews” (Davidson, 52). In 2004, uploading school work online was a new and uncommon feature and most schools did not utilize the advanced feature. Today, many teachers make use of an online file submission tool for students to turn in their homework. One popular online file submission tool is a Google application called Google Classroom. Google Classroom allows for teachers to set up a virtual classroom connected to student email accounts. Students submit their essays, presentations, lab reports or any other assignment through the virtual classroom and the teacher will be able to view it all from his or her computer. A teacher can also set a specific time before which the students must submit their work or have it be counted
