Technology In Classroom

Technology has become a huge part of our daily lives and has even butted its head into education. Schools are changing the way they teach and how class is conducted to adapt to new technology. The use of technology along with education has been in question, especially with elementary level students. The whole learning experience for elementary students has changed dramatically. In most elementary schools, instead of having overhead projectors there are regular projectors that project the computers for PowerPoints and such. If the elementary school has funding for it students even get their own laptops or tablets to use during lessons. This makes for a completely different school experience than students born just a few years earlier. Think about this, an entire classroom filled with fourth graders, sitting in groups, but all playing a spelling game on their tablets being extremely quiet. Sounds great on the technology’s point of view, the students are learning how to spell words, but they are not helping one another or having simple communication between one another. This does not sound like a classroom of a bunch of fourth graders ten years ago, ten years ago there would have been quiet or even loud conversations and noises among these students doing a spelling worksheet. Communication skills are an important skill to learn at a young age and going to school immensely helped that. Being put into a group of three kids in your class forced you to talk and have conversations but with tablets being introduced it takes all of that away. Each student is so immersed in their “game” that they cannot be bothered to talk to class mate and get help or to confirm a word is correct. It makes students more solitary then group
