In the last decade, our population has seen the greatest innovation ever experienced in technology. There are smartphones which combines a computer’s operating system with the cellular feature in a pocket size device. There are also electric cars which are vehicles that are propelled by one or more electric motors, using electrical energy stored in rechargeable batteries. I believe both technology have changed people’s lives and stimulated economic growth however it also holds a major privacy and safety threat into our future if not optimized accordingly. Apple was the first one to launch a smart phone device called Iphone in 2007. It has the functionality of several devices such as digital camera, web store, web surfing and even wallet when utilizing a payment method which accepts e-payment via phone. According to a June 2013 Pew Internet Report, 56% of American adults have a smartphone. With the majority of the population being connected via their smartphones devices, one other issue that has been on the rise recently is cybercrimes. Smartphones have become targets for criminal hackers due to the amount of personal data and banking information it carries. Along with smartphones, electric cars and self-driving cars are another technological innovation that has transformed the world in the past decade. Google and Tesla are working on the self-driving car. According to Google’s website, the cars “have sensors designed to detect objects as far as two football fields away in all directions, including pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles—or even fluttering plastic shopping bags and rogue birds. The software processes all the information to help the car safely navigate the road without getting tired or distracted.” The company has also stated on its website that it would reduce accidents by 94% after the product is fully optimized. Tesla’s self-driving car uses a computer vision detector system not far different from Google’s self-driving car. The most recent issue faced by Tesla was concerning a fatal accident in which the autopilot function of the car failed to detect a truck ahead. The vehicle’s computer system failed to detect the obstacle ahead resulting in the
