Technological Breakthroughs

People all around the world have been able to experience plenty of technological breakthroughs that have changed the way they live. I am only eighteen years old so I haven’t been around for a whole lot of major developments, but I have been on this Earth for quite a few of significant ones. There are three particular breakthroughs I am going to talk about today. The Global Positioning System, otherwise known as a GPS, Wi-Fi, and the IPod are all inventions that came about in my lifetime that changed my life, and other lives, for the better. These inventions will all continue to evolve into something even greater and I am excited to be around to see what technology does for us in the future.

In 1991, NCR Corporation with AT&T Corporation invented the precursor to 802.11, planned for use in cashier systems. The first wireless products were under the name WaveLAN. They are the ones recognized for developing Wi-Fi. Today society is benefitting from Wi-Fi because it helps them connect to internet on the go. This is a significant breakthrough in technology for me because it allows me to do papers or research while I’m away from my room. In the future, Wi-Fi is expected to evolve to be even faster and have less interferences. I believe Wi-Fi will even be able to be carried around in a bracelet so it is always accessible. Due to the help of the GPS everyone who is bad with directions can successfully arrive at their destination. Thanks to Wi-Fi, college students can do their last minute research assignments in Barsema Hall while continuously being connected to the internet. Lastly, because of the IPod, everyone, myself included, can tune out noisy roommates and make their day just that much
