Purpose:
The purpose of this paper is to use advances in technology to make the commute to college more productive for students living off-campus. This topic would fall under Education because it focuses on postsecondary education students and aims to solve one of their problems.
Introduction:
According to the 2011-2012 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study, only about twelve percent of United States undergraduate students live on-campus (Radwin, et al). That leaves a vast majority of undergraduates commuting to their campus. For some, the commute is only minutes, while for others, such as myself, it can take more than 45 minutes, not including traffic. This extended period of time traveling to and from campus means that less time is available

Then, the app would be tested to ensure there are no problems. I would then have a sample of my target audience test the app and give me feedback on what to improve or take out. At the same time, I would be looking for advertisements to run in the app so I would have a source of income to maintain the app and pay workers. Right before releasing the app, I would advertise it on social media and through flyers posted on college campuses to inform my target audience about the new app available for them. Finally, the app would be released into the market, where it would be free to download as the advertisements would pay for the app’s expenses. I chose to make the app free to download because 20% of free apps get more than 10,000 downloads while only 0.2% of apps that cost money receive that many downloads (Chen, et al. 2131). Thus, by making my app free, I will likely get more college students to use it, especially because most college students are on a limited …show more content…
The cost of developing the app would probably be the most expensive part as I would have to pay programmers or a company to create the app for me. This could cost from $50,000 to $100,000 for a smaller company with only two to three people working on the app while having a larger agency build my app would cost $150,000 to $450,000 (Yarmosh). The cost of advertising the app is minimal because I would mainly advertise through social media posts and flyers posted at colleges. It would likely take 6-7 months for the app to be launched, which includes time for development, advertising, and minor setbacks. A survey of 100 mobile developers found that the estimated time to create a mobile app for IOS or Android systems is 18 weeks (Rice). The development would take up the majority of the timeframe for the project, leaving about 2 months for testing, fixing, and advertising before the

The Ontario Student Assistance Plan, known as OSAP, started out as the Ontario Student Opportunity Grant (OSOG) in 1998/99 and replaced the Loan Forgiveness Program which was created in 1979. When the OSOG was implemented, it had control over the amount of money a student was eligible to receive and there was no existing interest on these loans ($7,000 CAD for two terms of study and $10,500 CAD for three terms of study). This loan was to be paid back at the end of every academic year and because of the regulations on the loan, it helped people stay out of debt. Instead having to pay back upon graduation, these loans if paid yearly helped reduce the burden along with other bills which needed to be paid.…

    1) What are some of the things ( behaviours) that you did or didn't do this week that kept you in your integrity? On my first week of school, I was speaking to a classmate and discovered she lived in the relative area to me, yet her commute was far longer. Students who reside on campus do not have to worry about monthly payments like their off campus counterparts. This allows students living on campus focus on school, alleviating the stress that can come from monthly payments. Despite the affordability of off campus residence, the academic advantage associated with living on campus overrides the benefits of off campus residence. In addition to not having to worry about payments, students living on campus also benefit by the variety of areas students can eat at. Equally important is the notion that students living on campus allows students to become more connected with their school and other students; involvement in organizations is likely to increase as well.…

Financial aid is a great program for families that have low income and cannot afford college at a self-pay rate, or have too poor of credit to obtain a student loan. For example, the students do not have to be in one specific location to access their classes, rather they can do so anywhere, any time, providing they have the mobile phones and internet access. This method is equally advantageous to the lecturers and tutors because they do not have to be on-campus to teach their classes. Also, for those students who are in remote areas or live far from any learning institutions, they can easily continue their studies by adopting the use of mobile phones (Hussein & Nassuora, 2011). Through mobile phones and internet access, they can continue to educate their students without lagging behind, irrespective of their locations. It is thus advantageous to both the students and teachers and efficiency is…
