In "How Tech Created a Global Village,” Nicholas Carr conveys the current use and the intended use of the internet. Carr states “We live in a fractious time, defined not by concord but by conflict,” Nicholas Carr. This is an interesting quote and one that really captures the essence of this article. He stated this earlier in the article and lead into it explaining how Mark Zuckerberg was a pioneer in the internet realm by creating the social media giant known as Facebook. Nearly 2 billion people are on Facebook and that creates a lot of room for conversation. The hope would be that the conversations were interesting and mature, but they can often be just the opposite. They now had faster access to reasons not to agree with another person and also something to hide behind to spread hate. It is being used inappropriately, not as intended, and is just a nasty global village. Mark Zuckerberg has said many times what he feels the internet should be used for and how he wished it was used, but with how society is using it there is only a continuous downhill from here. So society needs to realize and compromise or else it will continue to spiral down. The internet can be an easy way for people to relieve stress or just to easily state your opinions. So the solutions lies more in the society itself rather than trying to fix how they use social media. They are having these hateful thoughts in the first place, which is more of the problem rather than the social media.
