One example occurred this past summer when I was a counselor at a sleep away camp. From the beginning, I noticed that the girls in my cabin were not getting along and as the summer went on it only got worse. There was one day when I was trying to get one of the girls to clean up the stuff near their bed and she just would not listen to me. While I was trying to get her to clean up there were two other girls who started to get into an argument with one another. At that point, I was focused on trying to get the girl to clean up and trying to break up the argument at the same time. I was so overwhelmed because I was trying to do too many things at once. I was so overwhelmed that I had to go into a different room and talk to my co-counselor who was dealing with another issue. Thinking back on this event, before I said anything the girls I should have taken a deep breath and counted to ten before I said anything to the girls. By counting to ten, I might have been able to think about the right words to say to both the girl who was not cleaning up and the girls who were arguing. This strategy probably would have worked because I would have not gotten so worked up and maybe I would not have had to go to my co-counselor for to ask for advice on how to deal with the two separate situations. I know now that when I become overwhelmed or stressed about something then I
