How Tausif Changed My Life

Decent Essays
Two years later, my mother gave birth to my younger brother named Tausif. I was really happy when he came into my life. I was used to taking care of him most of the time because our parents used to go out to work. When there was a situation, my brother, Tausif, helped me to learn to be more patient. He taught me how to deal with any kind of situations. A few years later, Tausif was diagnosed as having autism. The news of him being autistic devastated our lives, but we somehow managed and accepted the fact. It’s kind of hard to handle Tausif. He is six years old now and doesn’t even know how to utter a word. He always screams and still wears the diaper that I have to change. I somehow have managed to live with him. I still have a strong desire

When I was younger, I thought my little brother, Roodly, was from another planet. He looked nothing like my parents and I. For instance, the color of his skin is lighter and his nose is flatter than ours. At the age of nine, I made the conclusion that Roodly was adopted because he was so different. Roodly even spoke in an unusual dialect.…

Introduction “The image often evoked to describe autism is that of a beautiful child in a glass shell.” (Schopler, E., Mesibov, G., 1995) For decades many parents have clung to this notion, of hoping that one day a means might be found to break the invisible barrier. Thus far, no cure has been found. Perhaps the time has come for the image to be shattered. Perhaps the time has come to concentrate, rather, on understanding the minds of the autistic.…

I was fortunate to not have to work while I was in nursing school, but I babysit for a family who has two autistic daughters in my free time. When I started, they were 2 in a half and one years old. I did not feel any pressure or frustration when I cared for these girls as many respite caregivers do, especially with young children. I was very patient with the girls given that they were not able to verbally communicate, nor were toilet trained. Each time I watched them, they brightened my day and bring me great joy when I get to talk about them.…

I read “My Life and My Little Girl on the Autism Spectrum” this story just touched my heart. I think it would be very hard to explain to your child that they have a disability such as Autism, but the way she explained it was beautiful. The way her daughter responded was heart melting. Children with a disability such as autism do not see themselves as having a disadvantage or having a disability, they view themselves as being…

Everyone goes through a multitude of critical experiences that ultimately defines who they are as a human being. Some experiences may teach a person an important lesson, some may build a person up or break them down, and while others might help them see something from a different point of view. When my sister Valeria was born, she was diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, and Dyslexia. Which for me, was hard to take in as I was not accustomed to dealing with someone with mental disorders. This story revolves around my relationship with my sister, from the years of trying to understand what she is going through, to the fights we have had, and to finally being able to aid her in her struggles.…

Ever since I was young, I have always loved my stuffed animals; even today, a large portion of my bed is covered in them. Each animal has a name and a story of who it is and how it became mine. Out of all of these animals, one specific gorilla holds a special place in my heart, because of how I came to acquire it. This gorilla, named Monkey, was given to me in March of 2003: the last time I saw my father before he totaled his truck. Cherishing Monkey is my way of reminding myself that, while he is not physically the same, my dad is still the same dad he was before his wreck.…

    1. This documentary about autism and vaccinations was very interesting. I believe this video was very biased about the correlation between these two items. They only told the bad side of the story and not the benefits of children receiving the vaccination. For example, when the parents of the autistic children spoke up about their children and the MMR vaccination caused their child to have autism, they never spoke about their other children that had received the vaccination and was perfectly fine. No one parent gave any positive feedback about their children receiving the MMR vaccine.…

It is really difficult to take care of a person with autism. During our class we were lucky enough to have these two parents share their experience about their son named Marcus who was diagnosed in the spectrum for Autism. The mothers name was Sadie and the fathers name was Rodie I believe. Some of the potential difficulties of having a child with autism are because they have trouble with communication and socialization. Another reason that can be considered a potential difficulty is that they have restricted and repetitive behavior.…
