How Successful Was The Reconstruction Era

The Reconstruction Era was a historical period where the United States rebuilt and reunited themselves from the damage caused during the Civil War. The Civil War caused enormous economic, political, and social damages in the United States. The main goal of the Reconstruction was to restore the Southern states back into the Union. The Reconstruction Era was extremely successful and resulted in a new constitution, the development of a new economic system in the South, and led to African Americans getting more oportines
The Reconstruction prompted changes of Constitutional Law, which leaded to new amendments. The government issued new amendments such as the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments. The Fourteenth Amendment was placed to grant citizenship to anyone born in the United States, which meant even African American were granted citizenship. The Fourteenth Amendment also provided the State could no longer deny anyone for equal protection laws.The Fifteenth Amendment gave the right to any citizens, no matter their color, to vote. They could no longer rely on enslaved labor, So the South was forced to find other ways to boost their economy. The economy began to grow thanks to iron, steel, tobacco, and cotton which started to increase in the South; the development became highly demanding. Agriculture became even more vital to the economy. Tenant farming and sharecropping both became a agricultural success in the south. A tenant farmer is someone who farms the land owned by whites and pays rent with cash. Sharecropping is the exact same as tenant farming instead of cash they get a portion of the crop. With the growth in the southern economy, many poor whites and African Americans were able to make a living. This also gave the south the opportunity to start trading with the north
