The Reconstruction era was 1861-1900. The Reconstruction was a time in history followed by the American Civil War. The goals of the Reconstruction were to bring the Southern States back into the United States in full political participation of the Union, giving “full” rights of any American. The Reconstruction of the United States was somewhat successful in many ways, shaping how our Nation is today.

First of all, the W.E.B. DuBois Quote states, “The slave went free; stood for a brief moment in the sun; then moved back again towards slavery”. This quote said that all slaves became free for a very short time and moved back towards having little rights which shows in a way how the Reconstruction of the United States was not successful in a way due to going back to one of the reasons the Union was trying to Reconstruct and start over in a clean healthy way. …show more content…
