This may be true to an extent. College students do not have to figure everything out on their own. Most things, but not everything. Teachers are there to guide them in the right direction and they are role models to some students as well. Teachers have a huge impact on student success. Teachers are not the only people that students look up to and want guidance from. Parents are also a huge part student success. Not all the articles talked about parents and I was disappointed because I believe that parents have a huge impact. Mailandt, however, did realize that parents are important for student success and this what talked about it the article. Mailandt stated that if parents are involved and support their children, the children will have less stress and, as a result, be more successful (1998). Having said that, Mailandt also covers if a parent is too involved. A parent can put too much pressure on their child to do well and that can put even more stress on the student (1998). Stress will most definitely have an impact of academic achievement. Everyone will deal with stress differently, but teachers and parents can help take that workload and stress off of the students.
