How Sports Can Have Affected My Life

Most people never take the chance, either because they're too scared, or they don't recognize it when it spits on their shoes.”(Babe Ruth, The Sandlot). Sports can have a powerful affect on a person's life. Growing up, sports has always been present in my life; whether I was playing them or watching them. Having been raised with four siblings, there has always been competition when it came to coming out on top with all the glory. We would all strive to be better than one another in order to finish number one. In 2014 I became a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. I chose the Pirates because I thought they had the most beautiful baseball stadium and I mean come on, Roberto Clemente played for them. I loved learning about players backgrounds and their stats. Soon, I began to feel apart of that team. I felt akined. Furthermore, I plan to further my academic career rather than my athletic one. I am intrigued with writing and watching games. I believe that my calling is to become a sports writer or broadcaster, to be able to pursue my passion with sports. By becoming involved with sports I hope to reach out to kids by being able to make the game fun to watch. I remember seeing a video of the great announcer Dave Neihaus call the 1995 ALDS between the Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees. The series was tied 2-2 in a winner-take-all game and the Mariners had their backs against the wall when they were down by a run in the bottom of the eleventh. When Edgar Martinez scored Junior from first to win the game the reaction from both the crowd and Dave were impeccable. I want to call a game with that much intensity and that much
