Knowledge from observations, experimentation, and experiences are a necessity in the social work field. With that said, the research and findings successfully discuss how similarities and differences exist in social work practice and leads to cultural tension not only from the client’s perspective but also the worker’s perspective. The research does fail to mention in detail of the different minority groups the 30 selected individuals were made of, the only information we were given was that they were from Canada. When discussing the types of tensions, the researcher did include quotations from some of the interviews which was helpful but for comparison purposes it would have been more helpful to include all of the minority groups that …show more content…
Not only should the researcher included gender but they also failed to disclose the field of study that the participants work in. There are variety of types of fields social workers work with such as schools, hospitals, military, and community social workers. These different fields are important because the target populations they work with are different, include the age of the clients and purpose of services. One of the strongest areas of the study was the breakdown of the types of cultural tension that can occur. This strongly emphasizes cultural competence including what the social worker should expect as far as expectations, beliefs, values, norms, and strategies for problem solving.
