Okay, so I am going to start off with a question: How many of you actually get about 8 hours of sleep a night or at least on most school nights? Well that’s what I expected because 8 hours is a third of our day and it can be very hard to fit that into one’s schedule, especially with the hectic schedule that correlates with being a teenager. A recent study that was done actually found that only 15% of teenagers do get 8 hours of sleep or more. That’s astonishing to me because you always hear people saying how sleep is so important for teens and that teens need to get 8 hours of sleep to function better, and yet only 15% actually do. I think that it is due to teens getting into a bad schedule or routine and not wanting to or even being able to break out of it. For example, towards the beginning of the quarter I probably got about 5 hours of sleep each day. 3 hours at night and usually a 2 hour nap. It did keep me somewhat energized throughout the day because of the nap so I didn’t really think I needed to change my sleep schedule, but I realized that it wasn’t necessarily healthy for me, and the nap was ruining a lot of time that could be spent on something more productive like schoolwork or exercising, so I decided to finally change my schedule. And now, I get around 8 hours of sleep a night and I feel much better.
