How Should Social Media Be Brought To Trial

I strongly believe that individuals making threatening statements on social media should be held responsible and brought to trial. Some of the internet outlets that support and do not monitor who and what is being posted on their pages should also be held responsible. It is far too easy for someone to hide behind the shield of a computer, laptop or cellphone. These individuals are given an opportunity to remain unidentified and can easily remain nameless while terrorizing, shaming and threatening an individual, company or country.

The simple fact that the source of these threats can remain concealed is in itself, worrisome in some cases. Some children recently have been cyberbullied and these incidents have led to suicide attempts and tragic deaths that could have been avoided. Similarly to the traditional bullying, cyberbullying consists of an intimidator or bully and a victim. In many situations, people generally take the victim’s side, because they appear weak and powerless. I believe that cyberbullying should be better regulated and not be protected under the First Amendment. Unlike other offensive acts like flag burning that illustrates disrespect, cyberbullying inflicts psychological and emotional harm that may potentially lead victims into committing negative acts. I believe that the First Amendment should be revised to adjust to today’s social situation, especially in terms of technology.…

When someone is being bullied online unless they take the initiative to delete or get help it is hard to escape the content. I recently read the story of Amanda Todd a girl who took her life after being bullied online and noticed that the memes of her are still all over the internet years later. She is an example of why people should watch what they do and be positive online because once it is out there it is very hard to get…

This causes the schools to feel the need to step in and try to control the problem. Here are four reasons why I believe schools should be able to limit students’ online speech. First, it is shown in document A that off of a survey done by 10-18 year olds in the southern US, 25.1% of girls have been cyberbullied in their lifetime compared to 16.6% for boys and 21.3% of girls have been the cyberbully compared to 17.5% of boys. Although also from document A, it is shown that boys are more likely to post a mean picture or video and were more likely to have cyberbullied someone within the past 30 days.…

Ever since people have communicated, people have wanted to encourage some ideas, while suppressing others. This idea eventually became known as censorship, and was applied by groups of even minimal power all over the world. The merit of censorship has been argued from many different sides, for many different reasons. Much of what censorship is, in our modern world, is a strong group of people depriving others of knowledge, to further the first group 's goals. Although some censorship may be beneficial when it comes to taking maturity into consideration, it is a dangerous thing to contemplate.…
