When used improperly, restraint and seclusion can be dangerous interventions leading to injuries and in a few cases death. Many states have out lawed restraint and seclusion except in extreme circumstances (Butler, 2015). To help parents with changes being made at the school workshops must be held to encourage parents to learn more about what is occurring at school. Workshops on bullying would help parents understand what they can do to help stop bullying. Parents can be involved in a committee to develop polices for restraint and seclusion within the school. Involving parents will encourage the parents to feel a sense of ownership in new policies and programs implemented in the school.
To help students with mild disabilities educators must involve them in making classroom bullying policies. Students need to be trained on what to do if they are being bullied or see someone being bullied. Educators need to make sure that the classroom is a safe place for all students.
Educators should include community members into school changes in climate and culture.
