School Dress Codes Should be Changed Throughout schools across the world, there are dress codes. Written and unwritten rules about what students around the world can and can't wear. However, many students find dress codes unfair, especially girls. We tend to feel that it limits our ability to express ourselves, the clothing is very hard to find, and causes students to be treated poorly. One of the biggest concerns for children is expressing themselves. While some children choose different activities or hobbies to express themselves, others refer to use their clothing. For many girls, you can't actually find shorts long enough unless you shop in the boys section of a store. This is a possibility, but imagine having to wear clothes of the opposite gender. It may make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin, and it also might not fit properly. Also, clothing revolves around trends. Since the trends these days involve tights, short-shorts, see-through shirts and crop tops, that's what is sold. So a student wants to fit in with the trend wouldn't be able to do so and abide by the rules. Next, some of the rules are either weird or ridiculous. Seeing someone's bra strap shouldn't be a problem, but it is. It is very hard for girls to find clothing that properly covers up the straps, while still keeping cool. Lastly, there is the cost. For some families, fitting the dress code may require buying an entirely new wardrobe. Some families may not easily be able to afford one set of clothing, let alone two. Actually being able to find clothes is a challenge in itself, let alone convincing a preteen to actually wear it.
