How Should Censorship Be Banned

Decent Essays
In addition to the idea that censorship is helping the nation become safer but really just because someone has a different view on what he or she likes it doesn’t mean they are wrong as this is shown in many cases of food, modes of transportation, and hobbies. When someone has an idea and it gets attacked just because it is different from the views of others just like politics. Politics plays one of the main roles in why books are banned because the lawmakers get to choose what is banned and what isn’t from lobbying and other personal opinions.
Young parents might believe that censorship is good and helps their child develop a healthy lifestyle because it holds them back from what they find inappropriate and unreasonable for them to see. This

A world without censorship is an insane and wild world. Everyone would be freaking out about what the government is doing, or kids would know bad things at a young age, and know things they're not supposed to know. Some things must be censored in order to protect citizens. Now, if anything bad is happening to the government, the government doesn’t censor anything, and lets the citizens know everything that is happening, many citizens will not know what to do, and most will worry too much about it.…

It is common for minors - understood as children under the age of 18 - to wish to be adults who can make their own rules and decisions, and to hold the perceived unrestrained freedom adults possess. This restraint and lack of freedom felt by minors, particularly teenagers, stems from the need for children to be parented and guided - a concept children and teens do not always grasp in the time of their youth. Yet one aspect of this “teen-angst” does ring true; minors do not always have the same rights and freedoms as adults. However, according to a history of court cases, First Amendments rights are ones that all people, inclusive of minors, hold. Therefore, in accordance with precedence set by court cases and the First Amendment, the novel…

They can formulate opinions on these issues at a later date, when they are older and more mature. You have to remember, though, that, as stated by the National Council of Teachers of English in “The Students’ Right to Read,” “youth is the age of revolt.” It is at this crucial age that kids begin to question everything they have been taught from the moment they were born. Therefore, when censored, teachers “are placed in the morally and intellectually untenable position of lying to their students about the nature and condition of mankind.” They are misinforming their students about the complexities of the world and leaving them ill-prepared for life beyond high school.…

Censorship, defined as the “suppression of ideas and information that certain persons— individuals, groups or government officials—find objectionable or dangerous,” by the American Library Association, occurs every day. Many people think of censorship as a tool utilized by governments to control their citizens, but it occurs much more frequently than that. What people never realize is that the everyday scrutiny and judgement that we place on each other and our ideas is just as if not more harmful than government censorship. We do not suppress these behaviors out of malice, but out of true concern for the wellbeing of our society. We worry that exposure to adult topics will tarnish the purity of our children, or that the freedom to proclaim our beliefs will somehow affect the rights of others.…

Censorship is about deciding on what people can and cannot see within a society chosen by a select group. Censorship is at the heart of the dystopian world of Fahrenheit 451; firemen start the fires rather than extinguishing them. The firemen in this novel are the ones who enforce censorship by burning down any houses if books are known to be present inside. The firemen burn books because of the endless amount of power and knowledge displayed in these novels, which is feared by the government. It is believed that by burning books it therefore removes any possible threats towards the government.…

In recent years, many schools have created banned book lists, banning certain books due to content deemed unsuitable for young readers, which naturally raises a question as to the justification and necessity of such a decision. I wholeheartedly disagree with this decision, as not only is censorship in general invasive to free speech, a right protected in public schools, but detrimental in the case of literature, being that there is an epidemic in the younger generation of the condition of semi-literacy. Therefore, if a student cannot obtain their literature of choice, the only logical position for them to take is to forgo reading entirely. For those reasons, it is my firmly held belief that banning any type of book would result in tempering…

The youth of today is the society of tomorrow; raise them right, and the world will go on to be a better place. In order to do so, they must have a safe environment brought about by the suppression of ideas, words, or images that are generally considered offensive; this concept is most widely known as censorship and can be. Critically acclaimed, George Orwell’s 1984 is one of the most popular examples of censorship taken too far. However, 1984 does make a few good points when it comes to what should be hidden from public view. Some of the most common things censored are nudity and pornography, profanity, racial slurs, and other sensitive topics.…

Though the very First Amendment states that freedom of speech is a fundamental right, an ongoing debate has surfaced on whether or not certain things should be allowed to be said. People have often argued that speech is just words; it isn't hurting anybody. If a speech is the cause of a violent action, then why blame the speech and not the person who acted on it? Others argue that if a speech is enough to cause or promote violence, then it should be censored. Or in other words, believe that certain things said could lead to major threats to public safety.…
