Education is a big part of student’s life starting from birth and as one continues to grow. As parents we want the best for our children. We always want to offer them more and better opportunities than the ones we probably were given. It is important to improve for a better future for these students. Why is it important that schools provide the best? Many low income parents cannot afford new technology or sack lunches for their children, a lot of these parents depend on the schools to help them. It should focus more in elementary school because that is when you should start teaching kids how to be healthier so that when they are growing up they continue that lifestyle. Although it should start at home, but when kids start school they spend majority of the time there. Teaching kids to pick healthier food choices is important. Kids are right now suffering of obesity at a very young age. Researchers J. Kevin Thompson and Linda Smolak say “Wood, Becker, and Thompson evaluated 8- to 10 year olds and found 55 percent of girls and 35 percent of boys were dissatisfied with their size” (Thompson and Smolak, pp 3). Jonas says in order to improve motivation for the students we must involve them more by using humor, interactions, and making learning more interesting. He suggests that teachers should, “Listen to what they are saying and watch how they are reacting to your humor and the lessons” (Jonas, pp 80). Teachers need to observe the way his or her students learn better. All students have different ways of learning. If a teacher focuses more on just teaching with no sort of interaction the student would zone out and find the learning the material boring. Especially when working in an elementary school, some students have short attention span so they are going to lose focus. If the subject, they are learning sounds uninteresting kids would not want to pay attention or listen. Everyone must attend school until the age of eighteen. That is a lot of years and for students to want to look forward to all those years, teachers need to help by having the child interested in looking forward to going back every day. Motivating their students can help them look forward to attending class and more years in school. Researcher David S. Shernoff says that “when teachers give direct attention to students individually, they were highly engaged 76 percent of the time.” (Shernoff, pp 133). Many teachers do not take the time to always work individually with each student because of time consuming. Taking the time individually to help each student can help also
