Decent Essays
After I graduated High School, I decided that I wanted to do something that would make a change in the world. Coming from single parent household, I was not sure that I was going to be able to accomplish my goals at first but I changed my mentality to be more positive about challenging situations. With this new mentality of mine, it has given me the drive to find opportunities to get my education, this why I am administering for your scholarship. I was born in Oregon and moved to California with my mother when I was in middle school. Growing up without my father around was hard but I was able to distract myself from being sad by being heavily involved in sports. In high school, I swam and cheered on varsity for four years competitively.

I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. When I turned eleven, rheumatoid arthritis wreaked havoc on my hands, with medications that did the same to my liver. It arched my fingers backwards and killed my ability to play piano as I had done for six years prior. In only a few months, it took away my predominant method of musical expression, the pain and deformity forcing me to quit practicing altogether. Initially upset, I reached for the nearest option to continue my engagement in music: choir.
