The effect that religion could have had on the literature of the time was that a lot of people had different opinions. It caused many conflicts within military boundaries such as the Joan of arc. It caused bad relations between the churches and the kings. Kings wanted to have more power than the churches for example King Henry the Eighth made his own church to have more power.

The church was the only way to gain education and most people didn’t know how to read but would copy the ancient texts and manuscripts by hand. For a peasant or lower class person getting into the church was the only way to learn and study. It was also the only way to become educated and move up in the hierarchy that would not be available any other way. Therefore being as how the only way to get educated was through the religion of the church that’s a,,m ll they knew was religion, therefore keeping religion the power of the time.
In conclusion, this paper is to prove to you how the church was in control. The church controlled politics, communities, education, and through the control of all of this the church also controlled the literature. So essentially religion affected and controlled the medieval ages literature through ignorance, through making it to where the only thing known was religion. This made it to where religion was the only thing that the people who actually knew how to read and write could even fathom writing
