These group of pioneers will be able to educate me in the field of counseling and we prepare me for that field of work. I knew Red Lobster was a bad option. I wanted to go to Outback Steakhouse, but mom had her way, even on MY high school graduation. I was stuck, sitting in the booth, waitress staring at me for 15, 16, 17 seconds now. Sitting in my cap and gown, she asked again – “where are you going to college?” I’d prefer the Bloomin’ Onion to this any day of the week.…
I had gotten my feet wet by taking several health classes, and volunteering with the school athletic trainer during my high school years. I also plunged into it by working as a certified nurse’s assistant at a nursing home, and as a home health care aid, and direct support staff doing respite work. I absolutely loved this work, being able to commutate one on one and help people is what I love to do. It also gave me a general idea of which area of occupational therapy I would enjoy working in. After my field work and working at a nursing home and with mentally disabled adults, my goals after OT graduate school is to work in productive aging, mental health, or a rehabilitation unit.…
If I am going to be a Physician Assistant, I will be constantly helping patients and the physician. I will be giving a service to the hospital for the rest of my life until I retire. I like to help others because it gives me a feeling of generosity. I volunteered at my church frequently growing up and being able to help people for the rest of my life makes me happy. This world is full of people with different names, different cultures, different skin tones, and different perspectives.…
High School is over and now it is time to take on the real world. There are several things someone could do after they graduate high school. Some people might choose to go to college, some might do an apprenticeship and some might just even sit on the couch and do nothing. Once I graduate I plan on trying to get into an apprenticeship for indoor electrician. First off, the one thing that I wanted to do when I grew up was be some type of electrician.…
Growing up I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do as a profession. No inclination of something that amazed me or pushed me toward it. I eventually chose what I thought would be a good stable career simply because it would be a financially good choice but it never seemed like something I could stick with or love. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…
When I was a young girl, I was always changing what I wanted to be when I grew older. I entertained several ideas ranging from princess to President. It was not until I came into adulthood that I realized my passion was with helping better our society; more specifically, bettering our younger generations. I went through several rough patches to come to this conclusion, but once my decision was made, I was convinced I had chosen exactly what I was meant to. I plan to pursue a double Masters of Social Work and my Juris Doctor so that I may become a Child’s Advocate.…
My dream is to be able to live in a way which I can help as many people as…
The psychologist William James once said, "the greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind." James, a prominent figure in the functionalism branch of psychology, believed that psychology could alter a person’s view of life. Phillip Zimbardo argues in his essay “Does Psychology Make a Significant Difference in Our Lives” that psychology does in fact make a significant difference in our lives. He writes about how psychology has an effect on our lives by virtue of how it has made substantial and creative efforts towards the fight against various diseases and ailments, changed the way we view politics through political polling, helped put an end to segregation, gave rise to…
The question of whether or not psychology is a science is a query which tends to come up in academic circles, usually deteriorating into arguments surrounding the validity of the discipline. Psychology, being the most popular undergraduate major in the United States, is an appealing field of study for many youths considering a career that will not only allow them to flourish monetarily but also helps them to develop the skills they use in social interactions everyday. As a result of its popularity, the question of designation as a science is an important question when identifying psychology. Psychology may be defined as "the science of mind and behavior" . Science has been deemed "an area of knowledge that is an object of study" or "knowledge…
Change is inevitable. There’s no doubt about it. Change is a part of nature, just like the leaves change in autumn and the flowers bloom in the spring. Sometimes change is a good thing, other times not so much. I can remember being three years old, watching cartoons on television.…

Nursing school takes a lot of time and effort. Due to all this time and effort that must be put into studying, it is very difficult to work as much as I would like. I work as much as my time schedule allows, but it is still not enough to afford the cost of school. This requires me to takes out loans to pay for my schooling. Not only will I have to pay back the amount of the loan I took out, but also all the interest that has accrued over the years.…
I believe that the best way to help a child is rooted in identifying what they need and creating a plan that works for them and their needs. This identification and planning is important in providing the child a solid foundation to succeed in their education. In elementary school I volunteered in the self-contained special education classroom during recess, in high school I worked with the Best Buddies program and started volunteering at my elementary school, and I’ve continued to volunteer in schools throughout my college years. While I've loved working one-on-one with kids I want to help in a bigger way, which is why I'm pursuing a degree and career in school psychology. The job of a school psychologist can be summed up into three distinct…
Why I choose social work: Growing up I have always had a passion for helping others, although it was never clear what my career field would be. I debated on many different career opportunities from becoming a nurse, working in human resources, and everything in between. Unclear of my future career path, after high school, I began college at the University of South Carolina Sumter majoring in Early Childhood Education.…
