I picked this photo because I love what it represents. First let me explain the setting of this place, this is the Romanian country side in the 1920’s, even though the time period is close to 100 years ago this type of work you can still see while riding through the country today. This is part of my culture and I can see part of my family in this very photo, the only change would be the clothing; that has changed a lot.
When I look at this photo it brings me to a different time and place, it’s as if you can step into another world. A world of community and a sense of coming together for the benefit of all, you see these men here are not all working for themselves, but rather for one another. The police office really frustrated me because as soon as he found out that he did not have his papers, he immediately changed his attitude. The officer started treating the driver like he did not even deserve to be talked to anymore, and even seem to get more irritated when the driver tried to talk to him in Spanish. It made me feel like the officer was trying to prove so hard that he was nothing like the drive that he completely lost sight of the fact that he was still and person, and that he was cooperating. The other driver was really and nice guy and could see how hard the police officer was pushing to arrest this man. I am glad that he did not give in to that insisting of the …show more content…
I can relate to this story very well, and in some ways feel the same way about my own country and people.
I feel that this happens to a lot of people with different backgrounds. They come to this country at a very young age. Sometimes they are born in the US and have never been to their country of origin. Their parents or relatives have made this view of the old country so different from what they will actually experience. In this story the author describes this as romanticism for Africa, and rightly so called because it is just that. The idea of this perfect place in which once reached it would just give you a sense of self in some way. That somehow once you were in this place everything would make sense and you would find yourself and feel as if you belonged. When what really happens is reality; which can send a shock to our system that says this is not right, when it’s really what we need. I believe that the author experience what he did proved to be more then he even imagined would be. The reality of how blessed we are in the US and even our poverty cannot compare with that of these other
