How to Transfer a Motor Vehicle Title “Another satisfied customer,” I sarcastically think to myself as the customer storms out of the license center, about to unleash their wrath on anyone in their path. This is a common thing at most department of motor vehicle or license centers; someone is upset because they can’t transfer the title of their motor vehicle. Maybe it is because the seller signed the buyer’s spot, or maybe it is because they didn’t have enough to pay for the title transfer. Whatever the situation is, no one wants to sit and wait patiently for half an hour or more, then be told that we can’t process your transaction today. Anything the license clerk tells you after that sounds like the voice of Charlie Brown’s parents. I recommend following these steps when transferring a Minnesota title to a motor vehicle. Do not confuse this affidavit with the odometer or title correction application, because they coincidentally have the same form number. This affidavit corrects the ownership of a title. With this affidavit, all parties must sign, that is, the incorrect buyer(s), the correct buyer(s), and the seller(s). Another problem you encounter is accidentally putting the date of sale in the future. This can only be corrected by waiting till the future date, or by filling out an application for corrected title or odometer (PS2025). Below the odometer area, on the correction application, you will put the incorrect date, then the correct date, and have both the seller(s) and buyer(s) sign. Another error you may make is filling out the entire motor vehicle title as if the title is asking you questions.
