How My Sophomore Year That Changed My Life

When I started my sophomore year at Seattle Prep, I told myself I would do something challenging. I made a goal of finding something that is uncomfortable, and doing it. Sophomore year was the year I joined Pulse, Seattle Prep's dance team. Before Pulse, I have never danced for recreation, and I knew this would be a challenge. I could not even present a speech in front of a small class, I had no idea how I would be able to dance in front of the whole school. I attended the intensive camp during summer, and was without a doubt the worst dancer on the team. I struggled with remembering the counts, my moves looked weak, and I looked confused every time I performed. Pulse was so much harder than I thought, and the idea of performing in front of the school terrified me once I realized how bad I was. …show more content…
I spent about three hours practicing at my house after each day at camp, but still received harsh criticism from my judge. I worked hard during the camp and even after, but no one realized how hard I was trying. It wasn't until near the end of the week that I realized what I was doing wrong. Halfway through the camp, our coach gave us a heart to heart about the true meaning of Pulse. Ms. Aara, our coach, explained that we are family, and always need to help another. I don't think she knows how important those words were to me at that

“When your music begins, you will be in competition mode.” I took a deep breath, it was showtime. I was introduced to the world of competitive dance in August of 2011 and ever since, dance has been the outlet for all of my emotions. As time elapsed, I persevered through challenging ten hour practices and the taunting of my peers.…

In my senior year, there will definitely be a lot of challenges and obstacles for me to conquer, but I believe that as long as I do everything step by step, I can beat down the difficulties in this senior year. When I was in junior year, I often heard last year’s seniors told me how hard is it to come up with a senior project topic, and they kept on reminding me to start thinking of my topic and finding my mentors. Luckily, I had research method class last year, so I knew how to do my APA style references and I had many presentations experiences last year.…
