How My Shared Leadership Style

The results of the assessment should not have come as a surprise for me to see that I have a medium shared leadership style. In my role as a program director for this past year managing 2 homes with 2 different types of staffs, I learned very quickly how to find the style that best fit each home. Consequently, in one home, the staff was well-known for being difficult and resisting change, but they happened to be very caring for the clients. As a result, in order to find common ground with that team, I had to recognize their knowledge of the day to day activities and show them my desire to learn from their experience with the clients. I started by going to them for input and build a trust that allowed me to make the necessary changes in the program. My concern remained the same for both the people (staff and clients) and the task ahead since I was accountable to my supervisor. …show more content…
It allows them to express their point of view while giving me the opportunity to bring the necessary changes for a successful program. This style on the other end did not work at my other home as the staff was newer and not really aware of their responsibilities as Direct Care Professionals. I had to be more task concerned to ensure that the work was done and that the right services were provided.
