Understanding who you are is crucial in order to improve and become successful in the classroom. In this paper, I plan to analyze the many aspects of my participation and explain how it has affected my me throughout the first half of this semester. By analyzing my personality and explaining my participation during Political Science, I will reflect on some achievable solutions for my weaknesses that will help improve my personality and participation in the classroom.
When you walk into the classroom you must be fully prepared. All assignments must be completed and turned in, the weekly reading requirements must be fully read, in addition to quality notes taken over observations, questions, and any important information you obtained while reading. Not only is doing your assignments a

Not only does it give the instructor feedback on what the students are understanding but it can also promote preparation. If the students know that they should be contributing to class discussions, then they (most, not all) will start coming to class more prepared with the previously assigned materials. Along with making students more prepared, class participation helps the students get connected with certain topics that they might not have been very connected to before. Participating in class discussions can also give the students a different perspective over the materials. To be honest, making frequent comments that help move the class discussion forward seems essential for full success in the classroom. This is one of the biggest things some students struggle with, including me. Scoring myself out of 10, I would only receive a 5/10 in participating during class discussions. I fail to help make the conversations more forward, though I do make occasional comments and rarely ask any question; I still have a lot of room for improvement. Stepping out of my comfort zone is one major way to improve my

Classroom discussions are emboldened because teachers want to bring out the students unique thoughts and share them with each other. This is a similar task in business meetings, business men usually sit around a desk in a conference room and discuss on way to improve their companies and products. Employees use the skills and objectives they accumulated from school in their younger…

I want my students to be critical thinkers and self-efficient. I think it is important for students to have personal time in class with me to discuss their ideas. Through my research I have found the importance of focused conversation between the teacher and students. According to Bayraktar (2012), “students did not do well in conferences where teachers: confused quality with quantity and focused too much on grammatical concerns, took control and kept power, pointed out and solved all problems, weren’t patient, and asked unrelated or too many questions” (p.710). During writing conferences, the ideas, responses, and solutions of students should be welcomed in order for them to be motivated to improve their writing skills.…

Class participation is not just constructing speeches and presenting them. It also requires coming in to class on days that you don’t have to present. Supporting classmates with just being present and being interested in their speeches, because we know we want everyone else to do the same for us. Also, helping and supporting each other is another definition for class participation. Coming into class on days we don’t want to, or think, “I don’t need to come in to class today.…

The title of my first reading response was “Trying to Find Joy in Reading.” I believe this was an appropriate title to describe how I walked into this class, and still in some ways how I’m walking out of it. My attitudes have changed slightly after taking this class, but I’m still not someone who would probably sit down and read a book in my free time. However, there were glimmers of hope for me throughout the semester that might indicate I’m heading in the right direction as far as being able to find joy in the reading process. I’m more of an active and outdoors type of person, than someone who enjoys reading.…

Over my college career I always valued the students that dominated a vocal discussion. It gave the sense of relief that my chances of getting called on were slim. The problem I always faced with this strategy is when we did discuss something I felt passionate about it made it harder for me to speak out. Without developing that relationship by speaking out when you finally do I always felt students could develop a false opinion on me by just a single thought. Instead of getting to know my character through many open discussion.…

A recommendation I have is to allow more “think time.” Giving the students a journal where they can jot down any questions or ideas they have about a certain topic will help them process information better. The students will later discuss with a group. This is giving each student a chance to talk and interact with other students, while the teacher is the observer. At the end, all the groups will share and the teacher leads a class discussion.…

Student engagement is considered to be of the most vital factors of classroom learning and personal development. The more students apply their lessons to the outside world, the more students will be able to retain that information and expand on it. The reason why interactive activities, such as the ones done in class, are so effective is because we get a chance to be involved in the way we learn. The very traditional style of learning is by sitting, listening to the teacher and hopefully retaining as much information as possible.…

Class attendance, active engagement in the class, and class preparation are the three areas that make up participation. My class attendance is where I showest the most weakness. I always tried to be in class when I was suppose to, but this semester I had so many emergencies come up that I had to miss multiple days. During the semester I feel as if I did well on class engagement because I communicated with everybody in the class. When we had group projects I always kept in touch with my fellow group members, even outside of class.…

Throughout the lesson, I felt that I was mainly active in the teaching process. As a future teacher, one of my greatest fears is that I would bore my students, so I would always compensate by including activities or “getting out of presenter’s mode.” I feel like this is a strength in terms of attitude and enthusiasm, since it has allowed me to think outside of the box to design and implement activities. For example, the censorship game was actually an original idea that Zach and I came up with based loosely on Taboo. On the other hand, I feel that relying on the same style of teaching can also be a weakness in the sense that I would employ the same attitude towards all students rather than selective students that it would be effective for.…
