How Music Has Impacted My Life

Music has been an essential part and larger than expected role in my life since elementary school. It has given me many opportunities I could have never even dreamt of and has given me the ability to impact the lives of others. Music became a part of my life when I first started playing the viola at Luther Memorial School in the fifth grade. I continued playing throughout middle school and now attend Cleveland School of the Arts, where I have been able to perform countless times and have had classes from professional musicians. Starting in high school I also started attending the Baldwin Wallace Youth Orchestra, which gave me more performance and learning opportunities. Without LMS, I wouldn’t have any of these opportunities.

The children I have been given the opportunity to teach have impacted me more than any performance or professional. During my time there, I have been able to accomplish many things: teaching students from fourth through eighth grade, teaching beginning to advanced level students, and working on receiving money and donations for equipment, camps, and Saturday orchestra programs. One of my accomplishments includes receiving a scholarship for LMS students to attend the Cuyahoga Community College Youth Orchestra for only $50 instead of $205. Despite this, I am continuing to try to lower this amount because most of the students come from disadvantaged families and cannot afford to pay $50 per …show more content…
Through the students I gained more than just service hours; I gained conscientiousness. It allowed me to grow personally; learning patience, compassion, love, confidence, and responsibility. As much as I was able to teach to the students, the students also taught to me. I love performing, but they made me realize what I love even more and what I want to continue doing for the rest of my life: teaching and helping them start creating a better future. I want to have a positive impact on children, show them they can achieve anything, help them build up their self-esteem and confidence, and show them that they too have an amazing future ahead of
