The thesis statement is – “Legislation needs to be changed to grant political asylum to these refugees to help decrease wasted U.S. law enforcement resources, undocumented residency, black market labor, and in turn give better opportunities to these people while also improving America's international image.” This thesis statement is well-written because it provides a lot of details and specific information that the reader needs to know. Also, it provides a lot of points that support the writer's opinion. However, the topic is not clearly stated in the thesis but the reader can still understand because of the good statements and details that are stated.…

Through learning about causal analysis, I’ve come to understand that basically you need to discover the root cause of why something happens and that actually can be quite distant from the original effect you’re discussing. I learned to develop a clear purpose when seeking to produce the causal analysis and what that meant to me it was that I needed to understand exactly what was being analyzed and its causes and effects of that event. I also learned of that there can be many main points when writing a cause and effect essay but for me I felt it was more helpful to keep my topic limited to three or four cause or effect supporting paragraphs, Simply so that I may stay more greatly focused on my objective. I had a lot of fun with this essay because I got to explore writing style that I had not really yet delve into in my educational career, and for me the challenge is always the biggest part of the…

I created the introduction such a way that it would capture the reader's interest.…

During this semester, we have read a number of essays that make you think or even relate to. During the persuasion section of this course we read an essay called Too Much Pressure, by Colleen Wenke. I found this essay rather interesting, due to the fact that I am a student and the topic she is talking about is cheating in school to get good grades. Our book tells us that claims, thesis statements, evidence, and assumptions are the three main components in a good persuasive essay.…

A thesis statement introduces the main idea of an essay. The thesis statement is typically located in the last sentence of the introductory paragraph. The thesis statement usually serves as the focus of your essay and should be developed, supported, and explained. Beyond the introduction of the main idea, the thesis statement tells the reader what to expect from the rest of the essay, foreshadows how “I” will depict the subject of discussion, and makes an arguable statement for the reader to interpret for themselves. To be a strong thesis statement, the thesis statement must follow four components: the thesis statement must be narrow and manageable, present your argument, foreshadow your essay, and present an arguable statement.…

In my opinion, a good introduction and thesis is what allows an essay to flow. The introduction of an essay sets the tone of the paper. If the introduction of a paragraph is poor, then the rest of the paper will be poor. I was able to determine what I wanted to discuss however I was unable to convey an introduction and thesis that correctly set the tone for my essays. The words in my introductions seemed to be filled with wordiness, awkwardness, and poor word choice.…

In addition, the introduction is written in a way that it is difficult for readers to identify how many paragraphs the introduction consists of and the thesis statement. One estimates that the introduction is split into two paragraphs because the end of the second paragraph contains the thesis statement, which signals the end of an introduction. However, the thesis statement is further divided into approximately three sentences, which makes it difficult for most readers to grasp the claim or argument of the paper. However, the remainder of the article (which consists of the body and conclusion) is written in an effective manner because readers are able to comprehend the material written and the main points the author is trying to make. Furthermore, throughout the article, the author provides various pieces of evidence that support the main arguments such as government reports,…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
