Often, I remember that I would tell my mother that she should send me to a public school because I didn’t want her to worry about the funds, but she would always remind me of why I had this scholarship and why they gave it to me. This scholarship has awarded me with the opportunity to be apart of the following: Mock Trial, Spanish Club, National Spanish Honor Society, International Thespian Society, Brother Rice Drama Club (BRDC), Unity Community, the Fall Play, the Spring Play, and Costume Crew. By being able to attend Mother McAuley, I have been granted the chance to find out what I love to do, how I excel in certain circumstances, and a better environment than what I originally would have been given. Due to that, my family and I have been more than thankful and appreciative of what possibilities I possess because of the help we have received from Big Shoulders Scholarship, more specifically, Gallagher Scholarship. Again, thank you so much for blessing me with these glorious

But that is besides the point, the point is that although I may not be the perfect teenager (and I don’t strive to be) I am still worthy of this scholarship. I have gained many volunteer hours through my school, organizing socials, teaching piano, teaching a Kindergarten class my sophomore year, and working with the educational department at the Houston Zoo. I have proven to be a great leader and role model, having been elected as Vice President my junior year, while maintaining other roles such as managing editor for the school’s yearbook club and having an advice column in the school’s newspaper. I was blessed enough my freshmen year to have been able to participate in the annual Turkish Olympiad, which I was able to win first place, and go to Turkey, opening my eyes to the world and to the cultures far beyond…
