This example can definitely represent women that are in relationships who are pressured into having to do something they do not want to do because they feel pressured to do so. The greatest strength about this article is that it offers a completely different perspective from the last three peer pressure examples and studies I discussed about. This perspective is from the point of view of a lady who might not chose to have sexual contact but is pressured to. It helped me keep an open mind to my research question.
Social media is a huge impact in why younger teenagers are more sexually driven. Shields (1993) writes in her article how media has impacted young teenagers. Magazine articles tend to write about numerous sexual pieces that are meant to be for adults. However, in her article Shields discusses how younger teenagers are reading these magazines more often and they are becoming frustrated because they “do not understand what an orgasm is.” (Shield,1993). In other words, these teenagers do not understand anything sexually that the magazine talks about. Since the child does not understand they decide to go figure out on their own what a kiss means. It was more like for the women who had unprotected anal sex with a few different partners to contract the diseases and these were not just any women these were women that were women from all classes. The reason this article was so essential was because it goes to show that anyone could be affected with an STD and that you cannot trust anyone. This article was well written and it displayed the message clearly to its
