The advent of media has transformed the fashion our society receives and process information. Not only the nature of television-watching altered within time, our advertising and markets have been able to target a more diverse demographic by drawing in attention online. Within recent years social media has flourished large and small companies worldwide. Interactive websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are practical for marketing and connecting with their audiences on a personal level. In this essay I will expand on several successes that were made majorly through online sources and a couple failed marketing attempts, as well.
Debbie Sterling, CEO and inventor of GoldieBlox toys, released an online campaign through YouTube called ‘Fast Forward Girls’. This video portrayed popular celebrities such as Amy Schumer, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and famous soccer player Abby Wambach, through young girls who dressed up to look like the celebrities. The moral of the video is that girls are powerful and capable of doing whatever they want to do, just like men. I find the video to be effective because the CEO of GoldieBlox founded her company for the same reason. Debbie Sterling is an engineer herself and also found her field to be extremely male dominant, which made certain tasks difficult in her opinion.
