Improved Essays
How many people die on a roller coaster each year? 50? 100? 200? Shockingly, only fifty-two deaths occurred between 1990 and 2004 (Inquisitr). Amusement parks are actually safer than we think. The chance of an injury or death at an amusement park is extremely low. In fact, according to the International Association of Amusement Park Attractions, only one in every 250 million riders experience a death caused by a ride at an amusement park. The International Association of Amusement Park Attractions also stated that more injuries are caused by sports, riding a horse, or riding a bicycle than by amusement park rides.
Safety rules are provided for most rides, and it’s essential for people to follow them. Most injuries are caused by a rider’s poor,

A few years ago, on a class trip, my friends had asked me to ride at least one roller coaster. It was not a large roller coaster, but it made me queasy just looking at it. I was confident that I would be able to go on and enjoy the experience. My confidence quickly evaporated when we began climbing up the roller coaster’s first hill. The ride dropped, and I was screaming so loudly that I could only hear myself.…

The first day of the Ohio State Fair had visitors smiling faces turn into the look of terror within seconds as they watched a ride break apart right before their eyes. According to WCPO, the "Fire Ball" ride cracked while riders were on it throwing their bodies at least 20-30 feet into the air as they were ejected from the ride as it was swinging and spinning around. Terrified witnesses watched as the riders slammed to the concrete ground. Dr. David Evans of OSU Medical Center explained "multiple passengers were ejected at high speed" then "crashed at a significant distance from the ride." ABC News reports 18-year-old Columbus, Ohio, resident Tyler Jarrell, lost his life when he was flung into the air while malfunctioning ride fell apart.…

I remember the gut wrenching feeling in my stomach as my best friend and I approached the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Hershey Park, called SkyRush. I am not sure why I agreed to go on this roller coaster, considering most of the time at amusement parks I entertain myself with food, and miniature rides that stay level to the ground. Unlike me, my friend liked the rush and heart dropping feeling of being at the apex of a roller coaster and then dropping down at maximum speed. Personally, I preferred the ground, where I remained in full control of my own safety. Yet that afternoon I found myself standing in line for SkyRush.…

Cedar Point, the Roller Coaster Capital of the world, certainly lives up to its title. Scattered throughout the park are some of the most intense roller coasters you’ll ever hear of. I was fortunate enough to have experienced the phenomenon of riding atop the Top Thrill Dragster over summer vacation, which lasted only 20 seconds of real time, but will forever be embedded within my long-lasting memory. The fiery orange sun began to submerge below the line of the horizon, far out across the calm, murky waters of Lake Erie.…

Sit back, buckle up, and get ready to scream because I love roller coasters. My family and I go to Cedar Point about every month in the summer, and my dad and I go and ride everything in the park. It is just so fun! The one thing I really like about roller coasters is that there are little rides for the youth kids also. My least favorite thing is when I am not tall enough to enjoy a ride, which doesn’t really occur anymore.…

In fact, if you have a fear that is just as bad as riding a roller coaster you can get over it, just like humans watch horror movies the face their fears and overcome them. Another example, in “Why We Crave Horror” Stephen King states that “horror movies may not surprise a scream out of us at some point, the way we may scream when the roller coaster twist through a complete 360 or plows through a lake at the bottom drop”(King “Why We Crave” 2). This explains that yes a scary movie can make you scared or afraid, but a roller coaster can make you feel scared but excited at the same…

In just a few seconds they would be off, gone to travel over the track in a bright blur. The screams enclosed the car with the force of adrenaline as it appeared and disappeared in a flash. I heard the happy and terrified screams of the people on the coaster and the booming voice of the ones controlling it while strolling around Paradise Pier in Disneyland with my family. At this point, I hadn't been on the roller coaster yet. I preferred to keep myself on the ground and not on the coaster going up side down into crazy drops.…

So this meant that my brother and sister got to sit in the very front of the roller coaster car, and my dad and I were right behind them. When we got in, it seemed like no time had passed from when we got in the line, to when we were seated in the ride getting ready for a moment that I would never forget. We waited for about 30 seconds for the workers to make sure everybody was strapped in safely. When the carts then started down this tiny slope to a straight away over the water. I was a mix of scared and excited for the ride.…

One ride I really liked was this enormous waterslide. I was really scared of this ride at first but going down was wonderful ultimately. Me and my Brother went on all of the rides and rollercoasters, but I am not a huge fan of rollercoasters like my brother is, but he convinced me to go on the roller coasters. The first roller coaster we went to had a lot of twist and turns and i was extremely scared, and I felt like the rollercoaster was going to fall of the track…

What is the government's role in protecting you from yourself? Restrictions such as mandatory seat belt laws, mandatory helmet laws, and certain drug laws violate personal freedoms and liberties. Our government’s role in creating laws follows the following: “establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity” (U.S. Const. Preamble). The governing entities around the world should not be using either force or the threat of force to keep people from harming themselves.…

Motorcycles are becoming more prevalent in Arizona, in fact 199,721 motorcycles were registered in 2015, in addition to the increase of riders, there are higher possibilities of motorcycle related accidents(“Statistics 27”). Motorcyclists have an increased chance of injury in an accident opposed to the amount of safety other motorists have, therefore lawmakers should allow motorcyclists to protect their own well-being by giving the ability to lane split opposed to blindly trusting other motorists. Responsible lane splitting provides numerous benefits in conjunction with added safety. Addressing rider safety should be more widely concerned, since not only the rider is at risk, but anyone involved in the accident is at risk. There were 2,911 motorcycle crashes in 2015 in which 1,428 included other motor…

Reason being, the roller coaster has to be built accordingly and specifically so the roller coaster can actually work in the loops twists and turns throughout the ride. In addition we need to be able to calculate the acceleration such as the centripetal acceleration to keep the riders safe and not fly out of the ride. There needs to be a certain and specific amount of everything so that everything can go as planned. In addition, throughout the ride there is are conversions between potential energy and kinetic energy when the roller coaster encounters hills.…

However, just as I said this the spiritless roller coaster attendant strapped me in permanently ensuring I couldn’t back out. After the attendants strapped everyone in, they did their whole spiel on how we were going to have a great time, but the words muddled in my mind as I was more focused on breathing. The car moved onward and screeched at us as if in warning. Then suddenly the car stopped, I’m pretty sure just to spite us.…
