1. What is your first step in determining what happened to cause Tammy’s silence?

It should be quite obvious that Tammy’s behavior began when she pulled off her shoes. This might indicates a personal hygiene issue. Basic personal hygiene includes skin, neat appearance and the absence of body odor. Tammy’s behavior could also stem from a cultural belief where it is uncomfortable for anyone to be in their “personal space”. If unsure I could ask the opinion of someone I respect.

2. What factors of effective communication skills will you analyze?

Non-verbal the mostly due to Tammy’s obvious change between before and after break.

It is important not to misinterpret the behavior due to my lack of familiarity of Tammy’s cultural background.

3. Determine what country Tammy is from and review the cultural beliefs of the country’s residents.
