How Macro-Level Sociologist Study Different Social Structures

In this chapter it discussed the definition of sociology. The chapter also gave a brief explanation of how different sociologist study different social structures. If found the fact that their are so many ways on can study sociology interesting. The concept of studying social interactions has never crossed my mind. Sociology is the study of different social groups. This can be anything from society as a whole or different families and how they interact with one another. Micro-levels sociologist is when a sociologist studies small groups, such as individual interactions or a friends group. Macro- level sociologist look at the opposite of what micro-level sociologist study. Macro- level sociologist look at trends that take place in large groups. I personally think it would be more interesting to be a macro- level sociologist and study why large trends are so popular among society. More importantly the scholars that came up with the vast range of ideas and techniques about sociology. The scholar that stuck out to me the most was, Harriet Martineau. Harriet was the first woman sociologist and she was known for her courage to address a wide range of social issues. This chapter also touched on why sociology was created. Sociology was created to help scientist understand the different social changes that took place during the industrial revolution. Their was a great debate between different sociologist on whether the scientific method could be used on the study of trends among humans, or if a new method would have to be produced.
