I was unfamiliar with the process of choosing the order of courses that would transition me to graduation. As a result, I took several non-required courses, and I even took some of the needed courses, for my degree, out of order. Needless to say, I hit an academic wall that lasted five long semesters. It would have been easier for me to change majors for the sake of graduation, but being in such a predicament only sharpened my perseverance and molded my determination. While these academic complications seemed unbearable at the time, my senior year turned out to be my most challenging year.…

“So Chase, are you gonna be in cross country when you’re older?” This was the big question from when I was in fourth-grade all the way up till sixth-grade because my brother and both of my sisters all excelled at running. I always had the same answer, “Nope, I’m gonna be in football because I am too slow!” I kept telling people and believing that it was true. Seventh-grade year arrived, and I could finally make the real decision.…

Consequently, I would often request help from my teachers, show up for after school tutoring, or do additional worksheets to further my understanding of said subject. This was ongoing with each new school year. The long term goal overall after high school was to acquire a college education.…

Unfortunately, my family wasn’t exactly supportive. I am the first person in my family to attend college and have had to be financially self-supporting due to my family’s financial background.
