By learning everything on what art is throughout the semester, art is the creation by human beings that can be visual or performance and the appreciation of it from individuals. Going into art in general, according to the text by Becker, “Most artistic ideas take some physical form: a film, a painting or sculpture, a book, a dance, a something which can be seen, heard, held.” In other words, art is part of the activities that individuals can participate and appreciate. “Making art works takes time, and making the equipment and materials take time, too.” Creating artwork that individuals produce takes time whether there are enough materials to make it or to raise funds to create it. Art is everywhere, and to me it is a subject that no one can take away. In one of the readings, according to Geertz, “to some degree art is everywhere talked about in what may be called craft termsöin terms of tonal progressions, color relations, or prosodic shapes.” Meaning, since art is everywhere, especially in America, there are subjects such as pictorial composition that developed throughout the years and mostly turned into modern art as aesthetic formalism (Geertz). To me I do not see art as a business even though it is raising up on the market, to me it is transcendent because art is excelling in the 21st century. Before going to the Art museum recently, I have gone to the art museum a few times as teen, but from what I remember as a teen, there were not enough art museums to visit, except for the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. However, as I saw other people’s presentations of their visit to different art museums in Virginia, it made me think that art museums are now increasing throughout Virginia and in other states. Which also tells me that art is becoming more recognized by society and receiving more appreciation. By noticing and seeing how art is transcending, I learned and realized that art is important to society and how it can change people mindsets into the artwork. As for involving in business, from what I remember in the class discussions is a website called Etsy, a site where people can put their handcrafted works for profit. The website of Etsy has increased in popularity where other people can buy works of art at a valuable price, and it’s true because I went on to Etsy and found a sweater with stitched flowers made by hand. The price of the sweater was about $75, which is expensive for my budget, which is ludicrous because artists are making money for what they create.
