How Lake Placid Changed My Life

The anticipation rises as the best week of my summer is around the corner. As we pack up the car the excitement is contagious. Going back to a place I consider home, the memories of laughs and adventures flood in from past years. From the lake to the Olympic Center, the times spent in Lake Placid have opened up a part of myself that otherwise I would not have found. My first vivid memory of my childhood was arriving to the challenge of backing the boat off the trailer and into the water. Instantly, I was so intrigued by this situation. At a young age, I learned to grasp new experiences and make the most of them. As my dad taught me the way to tie ropes and direct the boat, I soon fell in love with being faced with new enduring challenges. Experiences like these have stirred a motivation to learn at an all time high throughout my life. As a new challenge comes my way I have learned to welcome it with an open mind to get the most of the experience. As days passed by in Lake Placid, hours upon hours seem to accumulate into a prime opportunity to explore. Going on hikes, canoe rides, and long walks, I was able to channel a sense of self that is otherwise difficult to obtain during the school year. Whether it is poetry, drawing, or painting, I discovered the importance of self-expression. Being driven away from art, due to focusing on my studies at school, I felt deprived of my artistic side and was eager to create anything I could. I had so much to say and so many ideas to share, and finally I was able to be inspired and work with the beauty around me. This is when my love and appreciation for art took over.
