Jane Addams was born on September 6, 1860 in Cedarville, Illinois (Britannica.com paragraph one). Jane was born into a family of eleven, she was the eighth of nine children (faculty.webster.edu paragraph two). Her parents were Sarah Weber and John H. Addams (faculty.webster.edu paragraph one). Growing up, Jane was very wealthy and had had everything she needed. It wasn’t until she was around seven when she first discovered what poverty was (scholastic.com paragraph two). When she went on a business trip with her father in the poorest section of town she finally saw people that were not as fortunate as her and her family (scholastic.com paragraph two). The house first belonged to Charles Hull, therefore, they decided to name the house Hull House (scholastic.com paragraph ten). When Hull House was first founded it had very few residents. After two years of the House being founded, they began to receive over 2,000 residents a week (nwhm.org paragraph one). Hull house grew to have thirteen buildings. Even a gymnasium (nwhm.org paragraph one)! It offered many things such as classes, daycare services, libraries, and an employment bureau (nwhm.org paragraph one). As the years went by, Hull House attracted some of the brightest women in the country (nwhm.org paragraph
