In the game of rugby, no one ever knows what will happen. The team has to learn how to control the mistakes in order to be successful. To be on a sports team is hard work and it keeps one 's senses sharp. Rugby is a game that is constantly changing and the best way to cope with it is to be flexible. Anytime in the middle of a game a player could have to switch from defense to offense in a split second. Being able to stay in tune and ready for everything the game throws at us is the beginning of a great rugby player and a great game. For my first rugby game, I can remember every detail as if it was yesterday. I was in Oklahoma playing for my high school team; I was 15 years old and my team was new to the game of rugby and it was our first game. We were playing against the Oklahoma State University Women 's Rugby team. That night it was cold, there were not many people in the stands, just family, and a couple friends. You could see the steam of their breath rising up as they stood and supported us. My team was nervous mostly because of the fact that we were about to play our first game against a college team. The ground was cold, the grass felt like needles rubbing across my skin; tearing and scratching the cells right off of the top of my skin. We did end up losing that game but it was a game that we did not give up easily on. We fought and we fought hard; we never lost a game after that. I ended my high school season with them undefeated. Rugby players give every practice as well as games everything they have, if 100% effort is not given on the grass that they practice on then there is no possible way that a team can succeed come the game day when they could be on a different field. There is a legacy that needs to be left behind whether the score was in their favor or not. If the home team loses and has a bad attitude about it or drops their head into negative thoughts then that team was not mentally ready
