The movie “Crash" depicts the stories of ordinary people from different ethnic cultures, religious and social groups, all of whom have been victims or have used prejudices in one way or another. The movie displays many sociological points and how they are used in everyday life, while examining how all society backgrounds come into play. The movie shows most of the characters prejudice against members of other groups.
The movie begins with a car crash when an Asian lady hits a white lady. The Asian woman who hits the white woman blames her for the crash on her staying “she braked too fast!” In reality, she still hit her from behind making it her fault, displaying scapegoating. They were pulled over because it looked like they were doing suspicious activities. When the woman tried to explain, in an aggressive manner, that they had done nothing illegal, he grabs her for a search. While being searched, he shows himself as being power elite and he fingers her, which is an example of sexism, while her husband has to stand and watch just because she is a black woman who tried to voice herself against the police officer. Considering he was an armed officer who would probably shoot him if he tried to retaliate or stand up for his wife in any way, he didn’t do anything besides sit back and watch it all happen. For instance, the white racist cop sees a black woman in a burning car and she quickly realizes who he is and she doesn’t want his help. When he realized why she didn’t want his help, out of guilt he does everything he can to save her life and he does. Another example is the black man that was stealing cars has a choice to sell the Asian people that were part of human trafficking, or let them go. He does what no one saw coming and let them all go! Ludacris’s character, the black man I refer to in the sentence above is stigmatized as a violator because he is a black man.
