There are a many factors that can be attributed with the success or the failure of an athlete during a sporting event.
One of the most common argument that supports the success or failure of the athlete is the being the natural or nuchter theory.
The theory argues what has a greater impact upon an individual's upbringing and other factors such as personality and physical strengths and weaknesses.

Chris Hoys had already competed in events prior to this olympic games, but it was only during the 2004 games that the desired to start implementing the psychological teachings given to him by Steve Peters. This was so that the could be 100% mentally prepared for the games as well as physically.
The relevance of this is that Chris Hoy looked for help for his performance before participating in the event.
The sports psychologist directly involved with Chris Hoy’s performance was Steve Peters.
Chris was advised by his sports psychologist to use a form of positive thinking and imagery to help him focus on his own performance. This reduced the destruction of the other athlete so that his had greater focus allowing him to have more confidence in his on ability.
This had a positive impact upon Chris Hoys performance, as the has won the gold medal in his event. Steve Peters only suggested to Chris to change his mental preparation before going to his event.
From this Chris Hoy then went ot win his event in 2004, also winning six gold and one silver medals in Beijing 2008 and london 2012. Chris also achieved medals in 11 world …show more content…

The method in which Steve used to help optimise Chris's performance worked did have a positive outcome. This may be dew to Chris's willingness to try sports psychology to help optimise his performance.
