Ancient Greece is really the first generation that changed the tone and culture of traditional music from Jewish people and the Christian churches. They created their own patterns of music and found ways to incorporate it into social gatherings. Since a lot of Ancient Greece’s music was turned into plays, the music, which was created, in the Ancient Greece era relied on the memorization and improvisations of choruses. These plays would have a cast of both men and women but, mainly men. The music all of these choruses learn first is the music from the church. Eventually music made its way into the Olympic games where the victors of the games would be commemorated by ode or a song. Ancient Greece brought music to social events like weddings, marches, funerals, and other gatherings. Can you imagine a wedding without music? That would be insane! Mostly everything today has music incorporated into it in some way or form. Even war has music involved. Once Greece fell to the Roman Empire, the Roman Empire took what Ancient Greece had and adapted it to their culture. Before the Roman Empire took over Greece, the Romans never notated or left any kind marks of their musical history. The Roman Empire brought with them new musical instruments like the flute and pipes which had a peaceful harmony’s.
