The play, Macbeth was written by William Shakespeare in 1606. It is considered one of Shakespeare’s great tragedies. It takes place in Scotland.
Macbeth is the main character in the play. He is a very important person in Scotland. Macbeth is respected by his peers. He is also considered very loyal to King Duncan. The king has rewarded him for his courage in battle. And although Macbeth is grateful for the recognition, he does start to wonder if maybe he would be a better king than Duncan.

He allows himself to be manipulated by Lady Macbeth. Just as he was influenced by the witches, he is persuaded by Lady Macbeth to kill the king. Lady Macbeth teases him and challenges his idea of being a man. She uses the witches’ predictions and suggestions to convince Macbeth that killing the king was the right thing to do. At first Macbeth refuses Lady Macbeth’s requests which were really more like bullying. Macbeth is afraid that Lady Macbeth will think he is weak if he does not kill the king. Finally, he agrees with her and decides to kill the king.

Macbeth was a brave soldier but a weak person. He relied too much on other people’s opinions. Macbeth wanted to believe the witches because he was flattered that they thought he would be king. He also let their nonsense destroy his friendship with Banquo because he believed the witches’ prediction made Banquo a threat. Macbeth was also not strong enough to stand up to Lady Macbeth. He knew killing the king was wrong. He knew nothing good happen if he did it but he was more worried about what Lady Macbeth thought than what his conscience was telling him.
