Animal Farm is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. Mr. Jones, the farmer against whom the animals rebel, represents the Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II. The animals who rebel represent the Russian people. Each animal represents a person who took part in the Russian Revolution. Napoleon, the pig who leads the revolution against men, represents Joseph Stalin. Stalin's actions are mirrored by Napoleon. Napoleon is one of the most powerful out of all of them. Napoleon and his partner, Squealer, abused the powers of language to manipulate the animals of the farm into thinking that the farm was a great place to be but really it was not. An example of how language is used is when Old Major tells all the animals his predictions for the future. Old Major's dream symbolizes the Communist Manifesto. Words can appeal to a person's basic needs, desires, and fears. Once he or she figures out what these influential words are it can be used to take advantage of others in a clever way.
