How Is John Proctor Guilty In The Crucible

In “the Crucible” there were a few characters that wanted to preserve their reputation such as John Proctor, who was a farmer married to Elizabeth another character in the play, they lived right outside of Salem. John was a demanding and filthy mouth man who despises insincerity. However, he had a secret affair with Abigail Williams, and this alone would affect the way John acts toward Abigail’s trial, also it would later corroborate his demise. John hesitated to report Abigail as a fraud because he was worried about his secret affair with her being discovered and his respectable name ruined when the hysterics began. Reverend Parris is recognized all over town as a religious person, and the towns people of Salem do not care for his persona, nevertheless, he is still respected because of his religious beliefs. Throughout the court case, Parris knew that some of the accused were not guilty and this affected his morals; however, in his disposition, he would be going against the bible if he stood up for the accused by saying that some of them were not guilty. If Parris had stood up for the accused by saying that the accused did not see the devil, he would be suspected of creating a treaty with the devil. Parris only has …show more content…
He realizes Abigail is acting out a lie; regrettably, Judge Danforth has already condemned many towns’ folks beforehand. Judge Danforth also know if he were to stop the trials and recant Abigail’s testimonies to show that she was lying, he would also be admitting to killing innocent towns’ folks. Judge Danforth, is recognized for being unbiased and exact, if he was to do so his name would be ruined and he would lose his position as Judge, this is what affected Judge Danforth actions during the trial, he didn’t want to ruin his
