As the text states, the author used,“Trying to peer through the dank tropical night that was palpable as it pressed its thick warm blackness against the yacht,” (Connell 215) this is a very strong use of imagery that clearly describes the night and give a seclusive mood to the situation. Another example is, as the author states,“There was no breeze. The sea was as flat as a plate glass window,” (Connell 217) this is a very vibrant example of how Connell used imagery to create this seclusive mood to this beginning part of his story. Connell was not on par with Poe when he used: “An apprehensive night crawled by like a wounded snake and sleep did visit Rainsford, although a silence of a dead world was on the jungle” (Connell 230) this is a great use of imagery but it does not create a vivid mood. Poe uses it better in “The Cask of Amontillado” when, as the author states, “allowed his hatred to devour his soul and therefore his humanity,” (Gale) this is a great work of imagery, and this gives a very clear mood to the situation.
