An example of the discovery of hope would be when the poor members of the Friends of the ABC came together in order to revel against the monarchy. The monarchy was only concerned with themselves and was doing nothing to help the people. Marius, Cossette’s partner, was a member of this group and helped them during the rebellion. Also in the chorus it reads, “There is a life about start when tomorrow comes.” These words show that the people of the Friends of the ABC were hopeful that they would soon rise above the monarchy and that there are brighter days to come. The element of hope is portrayed by several characters throughout Les Misérables, but is shown especially by the courageous people of the Friends of the ABC. These people never backed down and were killed in order to help their fellow suffering civilians. By remaining hopeful, they proved to the monarchy that the people were a force to be reckoned
