Attending high school and then going on to college is what some people do in their lives. Going through these transitions gives you many emotions and responsibilities which can be exciting but challenging at the same time. Growing up we all think that we want to get out of high school as soon as possible because college is going to give you more freedom. That’s not the case, high school and college have some similarities but they also have many differences that you wouldn’t expect. You cannot miss classes. If you do, there can be quizzes and homework which cannot be made up or sometimes you won’t get full credit. High school you can get extra days if you forgot to bring your work to class or if you miss. Missing things can happen a lot in college due to you relying on the syllabus. A good example was the story my friend Hannah told me last week. Hannah thought that the nutrition homework was due on September 13th end of day, but it was due that morning so when she turned it in she couldn’t get any points due to turning it in late. If you miss these dates and times then you can’t go back in to take it afterward. Some professors do quizzes or pop quizzes in class and if you miss those then you can’t make them up like in high school. Exams and test in high school are usually over one to two chapters and are small but in college, exams are over 6 or more chapters and there isn’t a review day before the test. The workload for me was the thing that really stood out. I always knew that there was going to be more work than in high school but I guess I didn’t think it was going to be this much. I have reading for each class every day, homework in every class every day, on top of that I have essays to write every week and then I would have to study for my classes for 2 hours every credit hour just to make sure I keep an A in the class. Quote, my mom Wendy would say “You have a rude awakening when you get into college because you have to study and the workload is a lot more than what you are used to.” I understand what she is talking about but so far I feel I’m managing my time and schedules to make sure I get my assignments, quizzes and tests
