How Is Hamlet Seen Today

Hamlet is a play written by William Shakespeare in the 1600’s. It is a tragedy, like many of his other plays, and is about a man named Claudius that poisoned his brother (King Hamlet). Hamlet, the son of Gertrude and King Hamlet, is upset about his mother and uncle (Claudius) getting married after King Hamlet’s death. He found out from his father’s ghost one night that his uncle killed his father and that Hamlet needed to seek revenge for his father. Claudius eventually sends his nephew to England to be killed, since he knows that Hamlet knows and is trying to seek revenge. Hamlet never made it to England due to a pirate attack on the voyage to England. When he returned home, he had a fencing match with Laertes. Claudius put poison on the tip of Laertes’s sword and in Hamlet’s drink.The irony is that the swords were switched, so Laertes was stabbed with the poisonous sword. Then, Gertrude drank out of the cup for Hamlet, so she was poisoned as well. Hamlet was livid and made Claudius drink from the cup as well, so he would die. Love is seen everyday in relationships between family, friends and others. One’s twisted actions can also be a reflection or demonstration of that love, such as what is seen in Hamlet. In scene one of act three, Hamlet expresses his love and desire for Ophelia and how he would like to marry her. Out of love for his father and mother, Hamlet makes Claudius drink the poison after Laertes told him that Claudius killed his mother in scene two of act five.
